ROAD TRIPPING WITH VOLVO CANADA XC90 T8 R DESIGN

ROAD TRIPPING WITH VOLVO CANADA XC90 T8 R DESIGN

Volvo XC90 T8

One of the highlights of summer 2020 was an invite from Volvo Canada to drive their XC90 T8 R Design model for a week.

But before I take you through the design and handling of the car I actually want to speak about my experience with Volvo’s company culture, which began with a virtual fika with myself and some of the Volvo Canada staff. It was the first time that I’d heard the term fika and it was described to me as an important part of Swedish culture, a time to press pause and socialize. Meant to refresh the brain and strengthen relationships, fika is not a time to talk about work and is purely a social opportunity to unwind and connect. During our fika, it was explained to me that this holistic attention to detail lays the foundation at Volvo – from the day-to-day vibe to design.

A few weeks later and a quick walk around my test model for the week, waiting in the trunk was a beautiful setup, everything that we needed for a picturesque picnic.

The XC90 T8 was as sophisticated and smooth that the lead-up would suggest. From a stitched pebble leather dashboard and perforated seats to an oversized moon roof and dashboard screen display – the car ride felt like a getaway in it of itself. Aaron and I took turns driving and I can’t tell you if I prefer to be a passenger or driver in this car, even the boys were impressed with its beauty.

I cannot wait for the opportunity to check out another Volvo vehicle – I imagine that none disappoint – it was just too good!
