BEST BUY LIFE & TECH WEARABLE TECH EXPO & FASHION SHOW
In Partenership With my Friends at Best Buy Canada
Fitness trackers & smart watches are long established mainstays among wearable tech consumers but for the first time the importance of form, alongside function, is a top consideration – an update that has caught the attention of the fashion world. For the style conscious, a cool gadget or gizmo is not enough; wearable tech accessories not only have to perform, they need to look good while they do so – in fact, the less that it actually looks 'techy' is the first step in style success.
Best Buy is one of the leading retailers to recognize this emerging category and celebrated the marriage of tech and fashion with their second high profile Life & Tech Show – a packed event held right in the core of downtown Toronto at Dundas Square. Tons of wearable tech brands set up booths, displays & demonstrations to share with the public the latest innovative – and stylish! – accessories. Brands like Kate Spade and Fossil showcased impressive technological pieces that stayed true to the style ethos from their fashion lines, while Bellabeat established a distinct aesthetic with a yoga/earthy vibe.
I had the great pleasure of co-hosting, alongside wearable tech expert Tom Emrich, an epic runway show of over 20 models in stylized looks accessorized with the latest in wearable tech – a clear merge between fashion & tech. I advised the audience to keep watch of this trend – no doubt this is only the tip of the iceberg. I can't even imagine what the next seasons will bring; technology that we won't be able to remember how we ever lived without and how good it will all look.
