A regular on the cultural festival circuit (think Osheaga, Art Basel, Coachelle, et al.), thousands log on daily to Julia’s social media channels to catch a glimpse of her latest creative ensemble. In addition to a following that rivals that of a devoted style blogger, her social media savvy has netted Julia, the president of one of Canada’s chicest PR agencies, a client list of high profile global brands that includes Dr. Martens, Guess, Roxy, Mink Pink and Manitobah Mukluks. Today Julia shares, with The Style House, the elements of her personal style.
Do you prefer to dress for an occasion or for everyday?
Every day is an occasion! I love getting dressed whether I'm going for an Instagram selfie or evening out. I even enjoy throwing on a fast and comfortable rolled out of bed outfit. It's all about expressing how I'm feeling that day.
Would you rather be overdressed or underdressed?
Do you have a signature style or do you prefer keep 'em guessing?
I'd like to think I'm a chameleon in the way that I dress. My signature is diversity, I guess. I love rocking an athletic-inspired look one day and full on hippy outfit the next. I wore this outfit last week that I called "my look if I was an architect". I get a kick out of dressing a part sometimes.
Your all-time favourite outfits:
1. Coachella and Osheaga festival looks 3 days of laid-back, weather appropriate attire.
2. Running around New York for meetings. Style meets functionality.
Your top 3 celeb style moments:
1. Chloe Norgaard in her La La Land MINKPINK campaign shots from this FW2013. Love her and her style.
2. Agyness Deyn Dr. Martens SS2013 shoot - she's so unique and so authentically Brit Punk.
3. GUESS's Claudia Schiffer - such an iconic young sexy and adventurous beauty.
Heels or flats?
Both - depends on the occasion.
Will you suffer for fashion or should it be comfortable? Is there an occasion that you will break this rule?
I always think feeling confident in your clothing is most important. Sometimes a little pain is a little gain ;)
Always stylish or does even fashion need to take a break? Any exceptions?
Do what you feel. Wear what you love. Be who you are. Style is personal.
On an average day, how long does it take you to get out of the door? How about on a Special occasion?
On an average day, I can pull on an outfit in less than 5 minutes. Same thing for a special occasion. If I want to put a ton of thought and effort into an outfit, I can play around in my closet for hours!
Team Anna (Wintour) or Team Carine (Roitfeld)?
Depends on the magazine. I respect both women for different reasons. They represent very different styles.
