Kelly Claman

I believe that your style is part of who you are – it extends beyond fashion, it’s innate and it’s how you live your life.

President/CEO, Kelly Claman Company.

Personality: Oh I don't know if I could pick just one! I love Daphne Guinness' fearless sense of style. Another inspiration for me is the Duchess of Windsor. I've always admired her style. I'm reading her memoirs now and feel she's been so misunderstood over the years. Album: Abbey Road, The Beatles and Elton John's Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player. Growing up I always listened to classic rock with my dad, and it's all I listen to today. Designer: Right now, I would have to say Raf Simons for Dior. I also love Marc Jacobs and Prabal Gurung. I always pre-order a few favorites from both of them on Moda Operandi! Colour: All shades of purple. Astrological Sign: Pisces.

This fashion maven has lived & breathed style since she was a child, having grown up in showrooms & counting Vogue among her learn-to-read books. Her resume boasts an impressive roster of high-profile Canadian launches including Vince, Juicy Couture & Ugg Australia. Today, having branched out on her own, Kelly represents & builds the brand of some of our favorurite labels such as Kara Ross, Whitney Eve, Kova & T & Wren. Today she share the deets of her personal style.

Do you prefer to dress for an occasion or for everyday?

There's nothing more fun to me than putting a great look for a special event or night out.

Would you rather be overdressed or underdressed?

Overdressed, any day.

Do you have a signature style or do you prefer to keep 'em guessing?

I wouldn't say that I have a signature style per se, although I do love classic handbags and y Kara Ross python cuffs. I tend to dress according to what I'm feeling on a given day – fashion for me has always been a way for me to express myself, and whenever I travel I always bring tons of extra options because I never know what I'll be in the mood for. I also love to experiment and try new looks.

Your all time favourite outfits:

One of my favourite recent looks was for Fashion Cares 25. I wore a Mary Katrantzou x Topshop dress with a great digital print and incredible shape. I felt like a princess that night!

Your top three celeb style moments:

1. Audrey Hepburn wearing Givenchy in Sabrina – spectacular!

2. The Duchess of Cambridge in Prabal Gurung while touring Singapore, one of my favourite looks of 2013!

3. Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture at this year's BAFTA's – She stole the show!

What would you buy with an unexpected windfall?

I love hunting for rare vintage finds on eBay. There are amazing vintage Chanel baubles that recently caught my eye.

Heels or flats?

Flats are fine for day but always a heel for evening.

Will you suffer for fashion or should it be comfortable? Is there an occasion that you will break this rule?

Well, I definitely wouldn't avoid a piece that I love because it's uncomfortable. But I may not wear it too often!

Always stylish or does even fashion need to take a break? Any exceptions?

I believe taht your style is part of who you are – it extends beyond fashion, it's innate and it's how you live your life. Even on a day off, your style is still your style.
